you have to treat more than the cat. Take the cat to the vet for a bath, flea combing out, and treatment.
While the cat is there, spray or bug bomb your house, then vacuum when you can go in, it takes 2 hours, then you air your house out and can be in safely.
If you just treat the cat, the fleas will go other places in furniture, carpets, etc. plus if the cat is cleaned up and goes back in the affected area, it will get new fleas. Fleas bite humans too so it's not good to have any around.
If your cat goes outside, spray the yard too.

Go to the Vet for some spot on-drops such as Frontline, Advantage etc.
Flea Collars do not work- we found this out from experience and the Vet told us.
Spot-on drops took care of Lily's flea problem within 2 days- she'd been wearing collars for four months!
It's also advisable to treat your house- sprays or powder will do the job- always follow the instructions on the canister. It's also worth treating the house again in a few weeks.
Good luck!

Try to shampoo your flea ridden animal with the BLUE DAWN dishwashing detergent. This will kill the fleas but you need to get to your vet and purchase some Advantage for cats......make sure they give you the correct ones for the cats. Then take your lovely flea bag to get flea dipped and shampooed without flea shampoo. AFTER, you have done this and the cat has dried off completely or if he/she has recovered from the shampoos after maybe a day THEN administer the flea medicine.

Advantage is a once a month topical flea treatment for dogs and puppies 7 weeks or older and cats and kittens 8 weeks or older. Advantage stops fleas from biting in 3-5 minutes and kills 98-100% of the fleas on dogs and cats within 12 hours of application. Advantage kills re-infesting fleas within 2 hours and lasts up to 1 month. Kills fleas before they lay eggs. One treatment prevents further infestation for at least 4 weeks. It works too i use it on my cats

frontline or advantage is the best, dont get anything from the store, like biospot or hartz, they can be toxic to your cat, it s worth the money for a dose, then a trip to the vet for nerological damage to your cat.
