What are good volunteer opportunities for a 13yo?

Specifically in the Seattle area, but general answers can help, too.

Check out Volunteer Match (see link below) and see if they have anything you're interested in. Enter your zip code for opportunities in your area.

Some hospitals may request that you be at least 15 years of age, but if not, that is an excellent opportunity. Also, try a convalescent home, a day care center, animal shelter, or a soup kitchen. Check the website www.volunteermatch.org for opportunities.

Join the youth volunteer program at a local hospital. I do at St. Mary's and it's lots of fun. I get to deliver the flowers to rooms sometimes and it's the best making people smile like that. :D

Check with your local library.

(And I don't mean look the information up there--although that might work too. I mean volunteer at your library. Many libraries have summer reading programs for smaller kids and need help running them)

You could try speaking with owers/managers of a retirement facility to see if they would be interested in having you visit some of their lonlier residents. You would completely brighten someone's day and learn a lot in the process. Our elderly have vast knowledge and experiences that we will never know, its a great learning experience.
