In my opinion they have a significant difference in picture quality and i have proved this by changing my cheap leads which came with the product and the picture quality has improved. As the saying goes ' You get what you pay for ' and in this case it worth paying that bit extra. Why have a two grand tv and cheap leads ?
It just doesnt make sense.

Gold plating supposedly helps conductivity and therefore is somewhat superior in quality, but when dealing with video, the amount of data through loss of conductivity is not discernable. So, though technically you are getting a better quality, you are just going to be wasting your money.
