Jesus freed us from the old Jewish dietary laws. He specifically said, "It's not what comes into a man's mouth that makes him unclean, but what comes out."
And in the book of Acts, God says, "Do not call unclean what the Lord has made clean."

This is another of the many ways Christians like to put the screws to the Jews so to speak - serve the ham at Easter and Christmas with all the idolatrous items floating around...yet I suspect the Jews will have the last laugh.
Go back and watch how the newly formed Roman church (after the council of Nicea) went about to eradicate all vestiges of belief they considered heretical. It is 333 C.E., and any Jewish beleivers have only the opiton of attending a Catholic church on Easter. On the way out of the church, they are presented with pork - those who choose not to eat it and do not renounce their belief in "Jesus" are killed.
I have a friend who is a Roman Catholic and not a member of the clergy but an instructor who is close friends with some of them. Each time when visiting him during Easter or Christmastime, he offered ham on a plate as an appetizer and said something like "try some of this ham". Being a Gentile, I had no problem with that (and the ham was pretty good), but it certainly left me wondering if he is not doing this to see if we pass the test. I celebrate neither of those holidays from a religious perspective, and do not intend to visit people during Easter anymore.
Do some research into it and you'll see how this was at first done with a specific intent and has been reinforced each generation to the point that people simply think of ham as something you have at Easter. People in our society have a right to eat what they want when they want (and do plenty of it) - but this is simply to answer the question of how this habit came about.

Because they believe that they are remembering this Jesus. Note that the ham, Christmas & Easter been here way before the Messiah so when the apostle said that people would preach of a different Messaih could this be the one? Why do we have these things to remember the Messiah when he gave us his own memorial the day before the Passover,Luke 22:19 this is the evening meal that he had with his diciples.

Thats Funny! It has to do with these Sciptures:
Acts 10:9 The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. 10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance 11 and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” 14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” 15 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” 16 This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.
Romans 14:1 Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. 2 For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. 3 Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him. 4 Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.
Have you ever thought about this, Mary and Joseph where Kosher , so why do we put pigs in the Nativity?

Because the Bible does not condemn eating of pork in the New Testament. Remember the vision Peter had of the unclean animals? Remember Paul said that we Gentile Christians are only obligated to observe four things in the Book of Acts; and eating Pork was not one of these four choices.

Jesus said he will not abolish the law or the prophets but to fulfill them, so they are not following Jesus.
