because they think they are anonymous.

B/C they are either FAKE in real life, or they have a false sense of security (as in they think no one knows who they are, thus they think they can get away with anything IN CYBER SPACE).
In reality, these are the same people who want stricter laws b/c they fear other people, but it's only because they don't even trust themselves.
But once total FREEDOM is given, if someone has suppressed feelings and urges, it isn't surprising that they do it right away, eventually they get their fill and move on and realize why it's not a great idea to do.
Either that or they are twistedly demented from being psycologically screwed by the very world we all live in, thus they become monsters in a cyber world they think has no consequences.
Of course only true hackers and educated con artists can get away with such things in cyber space.
;-)
I personally just cuss them all out when it happens, trying to smake some sense into them.

A lot of people behave badly in real life. The computer makes it even easier to behave badly.

What you talking 'bout, Willis?
It's the same as road-hog drivers- that little monster has to come out somehow. Driving and the web are two of the places where anonymity shields them.
BTW - I notice none of those people responded to you, except me - lol.

1.) Being behind a keyboard gives them a sense of anonymity. There is little to no serious repercussion for their actions.
2.) There's a sense of detachment from their targets. Because they can't be seen, they are non-entities.

It is because, people on the other side of the computer do not know who they are and they do not have to justify their actions to them. They feel that they have power and freedom while on the computer. The computer allows them to act the way the feel, or just be plain bad.

There is no association with a face and introverted people can act out in ways they fear in person. Similar to what liquid courage does to some people, and yes they are just as annoying as drunks.

that's exactly it. they're hiding behind a computer and don't have to face anybody face to face. even the biggest coward in real life can gain enough strength to say what they want without fear of ridicule or harassment.

I agree with Wilson's Dad, it's the anonymity of being online that prompts that unruly, uncouth behavior.
