I have nothing that is more important than another life so you would be welcome to come in and get warm. Eat something that will stick to your ribs. I have an extra room if you need a place to sleep. All this is my view but I do have a family that may feel differently. I know they would allow the food and even offer clothing that they had that would fit but I am not sure if they would like someone staying that they didn't know. I was homeless once and knowing that side makes it easier for me to offer what I have. People have to stop being so afraid. What if that homeless man is Jesus? Maybe he is just down and needs a hand up. How would you want to be treated if you were in that position? I am really feeling this question. People always say they would give or that they do give but it isn't always what really goes down. People avoid you and they tell their kids to stay away from you as if homelessness is contagious. These same people cross the street so they don't have to look into your eyes on the way to church.

This is a tough one. Ancient Israel, and the ancient Middle East, was much more ready with hospitality than we are today. Then again, the guests were more trustworthy and bound to the laws and traditions of hospitality back then. These days, I might have a hard time admitting a total stranger into my home; he might turn out to be a rapist, thief, or serial murderer. In fact, I saw a TV-movie about a nun who, while traveling, agreed to let a stranger she'd met that day, and who said he had no place to stay, come into her hotel room. He raped her.
Actually, we have plenty of homeless men in my neighborhood. Occasionally I find one sleeping in front of my house. I ask if he's okay; he doesn't reply. I go inside and call the police to check on him and remove him. By the time the cops arrive, he's gone.
Therefore, I probably would not let you inside my home, but if you said you were hungry, I might give you some food or some money. My church had a homeless ministry years ago, and now has a food and clothing ministry, to which I've contributed. Sometimes I give money to beggars in the street.
Also, unlike the first century, we have institutions, public and private, designed to help people in dire needs. These organizations aren't perfect, but they're there, and we support them through taxes or contributions. (Why did this last paragraph remind me of something Ebenezer Scrooge said? Well, we have to be sure those institutions are humane.)

I'd answer the door and inquire why you are knocking. If you are asking for food, I would get some for you and give it to you. If you mentioned that you were homeless, I would recommend the nearest homeless shelter and since I know that that particular shelter has a pick up service, I'd offer to call them to come and pick you up and take you there (they also provide food there, but I'd let you keep the food I gave you for later). If you asked for money I'd give you what I had. Although, it's rare that hungry and homeless people knock on people's doors. They are usually near places where people come and go (stores, etc). The people who come to the door and ask for money and food are usually volunteers from the homeless shelters and food banks in the area (and local churches that also provide shelters or hand out meals, etc). I give to them, too.

I have never had a homeless person at my door, but it have had people to come and need food. My husband and I feed them and give them money to help them . People say we should not do this, but what if this person is an angel. The Bible tells us that sometimes we entertain angels unaware

I would give you some food, put you up on the back of my pick up truck (sorry, just gotta be careful) and drive you to a hotel. Maybe pay for a few nights for you. Get you a rent-a-car..give you some money for a few days and if you had any sensibility, you'll get your life back on track.
Ideally, that's what I would love to do for someone. But let's be honest, if that were to really happen, I would be scared out of mind.

I think, if you haven't read it as yet, you may find a good answer in a book called Joshua by Joseph Girzone. It's fiction by a very beautiful thinker. I won't quote scripture which should make a lot of people happy. Live long and prosper. Peace and Love

Based on the US today, at least i'm assuming you're in the US -if not sorry and pretend-, i would most likely turn you away becuase EVERYONE lies and cheats, squanders and steals. i wouldnt know if you were truely homeless and hungry or just wanting to get into my house to rape me. I'm not saying you = bad. but with people in this world today, you have to be careful.
however, if i didnt have to worry, I'd gladly take you in and feed you and junk like that!

Feed you some dinner and try to find you a place to stay while you looked for a job. Since you'd be a stranger, I wouldn't necessarily let you stay at our house until I did a criminal check, you just never know who might be a child molester.

I would bring you in to feed you and then send you to the mission for a good night sleep. Then, take you to where ever it is you want to go.
I wouldnt let a stranger in my house at night, because I have a daughter who is 13, and I have to be careful of who I let in...but your welcome to have a meal and the Mission has nice beds for the homeless...
I wish you well..
Jesse
