Hey, everyone, I'm new to the Yahoo! Answers community. I don't really know if this is the right place to post this.
I was wondering, (these may be a few questions) exactly what new features are available in Windows Vista Beta 2? Also, I downloaded the beta of Vista, and all I get is a readme file saying to burn to a DVD because its in the UDF format. I don't have a DVD burner, though. Does anyone know what utility or application I can use to start installing Vista on my PC?

Thanks in advance. :)

Are there any applications that are supported by Microsoft, directly? Other than VPC?

Daemon tools is a free suite of software that will allow you to mount an ISO image as a drive on your computer.

I beleive if you downloaded the Beta from MS thenit should be an img file. You can use Magic ISO to extract all the contents fo that file to a folder or you can use WinRar ( available from www.rarlabs.com) as well. once you get the files into one folder then you can look in for a readme file on how to get started installing Vista and if you are savvy enough or are willing to experiment then simply launch the setup.exe but be sure to read the technical directions presented on the screen as it is only a BEta and also if you are doing an upgrade form Windows Xp then seriously consider backing up your data as you may lose it if things don't go smooth.

Need any further help send me an e-mail I will surely reply.

Hope this helps!!

No virtual drives will work as xp obviosly cannot be running to install vista.

You will need 2 pieces of soft 2 do this. 1 of which cost.

firstly get daemon tools. (just search cba to find link).
this is for emulating the cd. much as the links provided already.

secondly get his trial version of virtual pc from MS. ( c below.)

set up both and mount the dvd image file in deamon.

Virtual PC is the key. This emulates a whole new pc inside iur currnent pc (if u get me). it allocates seperate HD, mem.......

You could also use virt pc to do 98, 2000 n all on 1 pc also. Because your current OS (prob xp) is running in background it will mean slightly less performance for vista. But it shud be still ok if ur pc passes the min specs.

Enjoy

cuz its a hog
and after install it inflates to about 9 gigs
what else.it sure is perty
but the EXTREME AMOUNT OF SECURITY IS A TURN OFF FOR ME
EVEN WHEN EMPTYING THE RECYCLE BIN
ITS CRAZY
you can try alcohol 120
but when it comes to the reboot i think yer gonna be outa luk for the install
yer puttin a new os on yer shyt
hence the erasing of alcohol when you do thisyer gonna havta burn it
try a lil proggy called nlite
mybe it will let ya burn on several cd's instead of dvd

A program called Alcohol 120% allows you to "mount" a virtual drive. I believe this would work.

you should attempt utilising a flashchronic. assuming you had one sufficiently massive to keep each and each of the information. then you actually ought to change between pcs. then on boot up, only bypass into the bios and adjust the boot order from hardchronic to usb gadget
