To prepare sausages (most sandwich meat) in anything other than round sausage casings would cost more, especially in large quantities. On the other hand, it would be very expensive to make special round bread pans to bake large quantities of sliced bread.

You can find plenty of square slice beef, turkey and ham, after all, they dont have to come out of sausage type casings.

It's all about money.

Sandwich meat is round, so it will fit in your mouth like the other meat that goes in there. You know, kind of like a hot dog.

Bread is square so it will fit inside of your head.
