The easiest way to tell the difference is by looking at the cheek patches. Males have brighter cheek patches than the hens.
Also look at the underside of the tail feathers. Hens have a mottled grey colouring there and the males have a plain colour, usually yellow.

It depends on what breed of Cockatiel you have. If it is a normal grey, the males develop a bright yellow face and bright orange cheek patches after their first molt. Females will be mostly gray with dull yellow cheek patches. Check out the website below. They have great information on Tiels, including diets, cages, vets, and breeding.

The way to find out the gender of your birds is to have them "sexed". To do this, find a Veterinarian that specializes in Aviarian Practice and request DNA Testing for your birds. Last time I checked, it cost about $20.00 per bird, although this could vary greatly depending on the Vets in your area. Another way to find out is to keep them separated, make sure you give them Gravel-N-Grit or a similar product with thier food on a regular basis and eventually the females will start laying unfertilized eggs !

a woman has duller coloring than a male-both have orange on their cheeks besides the indisputable fact that the male would have shiny yellows and white on his head the position because the female would have frequently gray. that's a regular handbook and there are exceptions, the purely thanks to be one hundred% effective is to take the poultry to a vet or poultry specialist who can use a probe to inform for effective.
