For scholarships: What exactly should a letter of appreciation (Thank you letter) contain?

I could just make something up, but I was wondering if there was some accepted format? Should it be in a letter format, and include more than just a thank you? It's not a scholarship from a college btw, but a couble diff. clubs.
Anyone written one?

The link below has information about what to include in your letter, and two samples. I think the most important thing is to make it personal, and express how/why the award will really help you, or why it means a lot to you.
