Most bottled water is tap water that has been filtered, oxidated or distilled. And tap water in most major metro areas is perfectly fine to drink and it's also fluoridated for the purpose of keeping teeth healthy. Bottled water doesn't have this and recent studies have proven that many people who drink only bottled water exhibit a decline in dental hygiene because of the loss of fluoride.

If you're concerned about bacteria or trace elements in tap water, you can boil it and then keep it in a bottle in the fridge or get a Brita or Pur water filter which in the long run is much cheaper than buying all that bottled water.

Don't know about the 40%, but, if you get a brand name, you' should be OK. Competition is fierce and water's water and the only real advantage is a recognized and trusted name. Distilled water is OK also even if the source was originally tap water since the impurities don't carry over. Tap water could also be purified by reverse osmosis.
