He's one year old, we keep him outside, and he often pees on his food, his water, his chewing toys. Any ideas on what could trigger this behaviour and how to make it stop?

We don't have any other dogs, and he's not neutered.

You have one weird beagle! Is he neutered? If he just turned a year old, he's reaching puberty and probably staking claim to all his stuff - claiming his territory. I wouldn't bother stopping him, he's doing what he feels necessary to keep all adversaries real or imagined away.

If you have another dog, that could be causeing it, they may be doing it to mark territory form one another.

Marking territory... is he fixed? If he was doing it before you got him fixed too it is now behavioral... and will take professional ideas.
