I'm not sure that a "pure" religion even exists today.

True religion does not sanction murder. Jesus Christ taught us that were were to be prepared to die, as He did, rather than to commit murder. The only religion on the face of the Earth that does not commit murder is Jehovah's Witnesses. Witnesses are completely neutral all over the world. We will go to prison rather than serve in any part of the military. Many have been persecuted and even killed for refusing to take up arms. We do not smoke, because it kills and second-hand smoke kills others. You can look in history books about:
Jehovah's Witnesses and Neutrality
WWI, WWll, & Vietnam Wars
Concentration camps and Jehovah's Witnesses
Soviet Union against Jehovah's Witnesses

I think discussion works best if the terms used are accurate. For example, many people confuse justified killing as murder. If I witness a person attempting to kill my neighbor, and in trying to save the innocent the perpetrator is killed, would you call me a murderer? Some might. When emotions take over the dialog it becomes more difficult to reach a concensus. So sometimes killing is justified, but it is different from murder.

Well, most religions permit murder in war as a means of self defense...but the war must be a defensive war....like world war 2. Most of the wars our country has fought have not been justified and would not have been condoned. Currently, Catholicism and christianity condone murder in this manner.

just like this.
"On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our apostles with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land. (The Noble Quran, 5:32)"

dear 1opinion ,
yes we can kill but not everybody .
in respect of the 3rd answerer "WHY NOT ASK DON" :
i don't agree with ur ignorant answer since islam is word firstly then sword secondly .
sure muslim implies peace , allah is peace , allah is one , only one as he told us in qur'an .
mohammad pbuh is the last prophet as well as his brothers prophets jesus , mosis , ibrahim ...etc pbu them .
mohammad isn't a god , he is a slave for allah as well as all the creatures in the universe , we r all even jesus .
as for killing , this is the last choice for who represents an enemy .
in war , muslims don't kill old , women , children
moreover non-muslims can live in peace in a muslim country .
that's enough for u .
