Canadian beer is by far stronger. The most alcohol it can have in order to be considered a beer in the U.S. is 5.9%. Any more than that and it's considered a malt liquor. Moslon has a BEER that is like 7.5%

Strong Canadian Beer

Well, the average American beer is between 4% and 5% as well. The difference is, Canada does not impose as strict alcohol limits as the US States do. This equates to some Canadian beers are stronger than American beers.

Are you talking about flavor or alcohol content?

If it's flavor, the Canadian beers (Labatts, Molson, Mosehead) beat the pants off the mass market Americans (Bud, Coors, etc). There's plenty of smaller American breweries that turn out great stuff, but the national brands are all pretty much pond water.

If it's alcohol content, they're all pretty close. Bud is 5% (so is B. Light), I think Molson Golden is 5.3%. Anything higher than 6% or so means the brewer has added extra alcohol (like a malt liquor or fortified beer) because the yeast used in brewing die out once the content passes that point.

Alcohol content has NOTHING to do with flavor. Even Guinness Stout, as strong as the flavor is, only contains 4.8% alcohol.

It depends, you can't just generalize it by "American" and "Canadian" beer. Most any brewery in either country is capable of producing different levels of alcohol that is just all over the charts. I've seen beer brewed in whiskey barrels that had 27% alcohol.

No neccessarily. Mainstream breweries, yes. Local "micro-brews" no. Here in PA i've had beer thats about 25 proof. Overall though, yes canadian beers available in America are of a lesser percent alchohol....which blows.
