I tried reading the vedas, but did not understand a single word with my limited knowledge of Sanskrit language. I had to rely totally on the meaning, translation and commentary given in English. But that is no use. There is a lot of difference between saying "Annam cha Brahma bhoktaa cha Brahma" and "Food is god, the one who eats is also God"!! I hate to read translations for this reason...

The Gita is fine, I understand most of it and only for a few difficult words I have to refer to the meaning. Gita is a real classic. I like it as a book rather than as a holy scripture. Bhagwan Vyaas has brought across many subtle and sensitive thoughts in a very grand way.

My biggest dream and aim is to study Sanskit to get deep understanding. Then, reading Sanskrit work will be like Nirvana to me... that is the ultimate... Sanskrit is where I belong...

If you are reading or planning to read these, Sanskrit is the key... Many good luck to you!

ive read some of it. Most of it was actually quite similar to alot of the res tof relgions except all the sacrificial parts...wow!! HInduism has TONS of sacrifices and lots and LOTS of things about cows. But it was interesting.

I tried but I had a hard time following it... kind of like talking to someone who is crazy or stoned - it didn't make much sense to me.
