I was wondering what Religions (Catholic, Jews, Christian etc...) view on being born out of wedlock was? Is it a sin and will you go to hell for it?

I had a child out of wedlock. I can tell you that some Catholic priests would not baptize my daughter for precisely that reason. That's one of the reasons I went to one of the Protestant churches. I asked for and received forgiveness, and it was never considered something my daughter needed forgiveness for. She has since been baptized. Neither of us are going to hell for it, at least not according to our church :)

It's not the child's fault it was born out of wedlock. The unfortunate title "bastard" was given to these children in an effort to shame people into taking stock of the sanctity of marriage, but to no avail obviously......The child is born to sin because of the curse of man placed on Adam and Eve when they were expelled from the garden of Eden, but the fact that a child is born out of wedlock is not a sin that can be laid to the charge of that child.

Being born is not a sin. A sin would be any way that you willfully chose to do something that was against what God wants you to do, and being born is neither wrong nor a choice. The sin occured when the child was conceived. And the only sin you can go to hell for is denying the existence of God and his son Jesus Christ.

How can the child have any say on what the parents do or don't do? Do you believe that a child will be bound to hell for the idiocy of the parents? If you do, are your reading the bible correctly? There is no mention of a child assigned to an eternal damnation for the sins of the parents. Consider the nature of God and ask yourself what the definition of MERCY is? Mercy would denote understanding and love and compassion. Hence the name known as the God of Love, Prince of Peace, Oh Merciful One, etc. So to answer your question in clear and concise way, God will never condemn a child for the sins of the parent.

You cannot blame a child for the circumstances of his birth. It is not a sin to be born out of wedlock. No where in the Bible does it say that!

We are all sinnners...but being "born out of wedlock "isn't a sin to the person born. A child can't be held responcible for the sins of the parents

We are all decendants of Adam and Eve, so were are ALL born in Sin. Romans 5:12 says: "That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned".
However, you had no control over the conditions of your birth and God doesn't hold that against you.
Notice what 1Corinthians 6:9-11 says: "What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God's kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God's kingdom. And yet that is what some of YOU were. But YOU have been washed clean, but YOU have been sanctified, but YOU have been declared righteous in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God". A child born out of wedlock can hardly be a sin committed by the baby.
It's not his/her fault nor did he/her have anything to do with the decision resulting in the birth.

It isn't the birth 'cause we all are born in sin. That's why when you accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior you are said to be a born again Chrisrian. It's the sex out of wedlock that's the sin.

I am a christian. yes it is a sin and yes you can go to hell and no you can escape hell. If you know the truth it shall set you free. Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins. When you sin like out of Wedlock, God will forgive you. You are forgiven if you confess and repent. When you repent God forgets all about your past. he loves you. the bible says we are all sinners. Those who beleive and repent are saved by Gods grace.
