My daughter is 6 and has been very responsible going to the neighbors and playing out front and riding her bike on the cresent only. She now want to go the playground across the street when I'm doing housework. I thought it would be ok if I walk her across the street and she takes walkie- talkies and ask me to come and help her back across to come home...

Unless it is a very busy street I would let her go across it now. The walkie talkies is a good idea though because there are a lot of freaks in the world. She has to grow up, that is what you are there for.

I don't think it's a good idea to let a 6 year old be at a playground alone. Too many things can happen, in a matter of seconds, that would endanger her. If you REALLY love your daughter, which I think you do since you're asking this question, forget about the housework for an hour and take her to the playground yourself. Aside from the obvious dangers of her being alone, you don't want to look back some day and regret that you didn't go outside and play with her when she was young. Be a mom first, the housework can be done when she's asleep.

I think it depends on where you live. if its a small town and you know your neighbors it should be fine. can you see the playground from a window? if yes then it should be ok, but I guess its all on how much you really can trust a 6 year old alone. I think the walkies are a good idea, but you should also talk to her more than just to have you walk her across the street. It wouldnt have to be all the time and it would be fun for her becuase she will feel all grown up like a cell phone. just ask her if she is having fun and things like that.

I think it's great that you allow your child to play outside by herself. I love the walkie-talkie idea! The media has scared people to death these days about child abductions. The crime rate has had a dramatic decline in the last twenty years. But today's parents believe it happens so much more than it really does because they see so much of it on television. Many child abductions happen within a family, not by a stranger. I remember the days when children could play outside until the streetlights came on. Let your daughter have fun!

I don't think it is a good idea i take the kids to the park all the time and see kids their by themselves getting hurt playing to rough, getting into things, some are fine but that is a chance to take. I mean my park can have 20 kids and only 12 of them are with an adult. I had this one freaky guy that was there with no kids watching them play. I called the police, come to find out he was a pedophile and they had just got another from a park cross town. So you know pedophiles tend to target kids in better neighborhoods where the parents feel "safe"

Man, I'm glad I don't have kids. I would be a nevrous wreck the WHOLE time and I would just keep them locked in their rooms so I would know they were safe! LOL! The walkie talkie thing is a good idea but will she keep track of it while she's playing? I dunno, there are some crazies out there! Maybe find a friend or sibling to with her.

leaving your little girl unattended in a public place is never a good idea- any psycho can walk up and take her. even with the walkie-talkies, it's a big risk.

That's a normal thing to do, but I adivse you to send a trusted someone with her. Give them both a walkie talkie and have one yourself.

PLEASE!! Let your kid go outside. PLEASE!! The reason kids are becoming obese is because their parents make them stay inside all the time. I suggest leaving the housework for a little while and going with her. A walkie-talkie is a great idea. Your kid is brilliant. Do it.
