Cockerels do not have a penis. Like most birds they have a cloaca or vent (a sort of general purpose exit is the best way to describe it) and the semen is transferred from male to female by putting the male and female vents together.

Only a few birds, including some waterfowl and the large flightless birds like the ostrich have the equivalent of a penis.

I found one site which describes the reproductive system of the chicken. It's mostly pictures which are photos and drawings of chicken innards - not to everyone's taste - so please don't go there if you are squeamish!

I have 5 cockateils and I always have alot of eggs but I know you can't tell by looking if the bird is a female or a male. I can't really say for sure it has to have one or I wouldn't get the eggs.
