The way to figure it out is remember King Hector Died Monday Don't Call Me.
write down those initials. M represents meter which can be used for gram, liter, etc.
K= kilo
H=hecto
d=deca
m=whatever measurement you are referring to
d=deci
c=centi
m=milli
Want to know how many milligrams are in one gram, start at the m and go to the last m (milli) and count the letters as you go = 3. so write a 1 and move the decimal over 3 places. That gives you 1000.
