You are so right, and I am as guilty as the others, saying to get over it and move on. But when it's you, who has to do it, it just isn't that easy, as you are finding out. We just can't turn off emotions, like a light switch.
The only thing that helps, is the passage of time, and keeping busy. Keeping your mind occupied, will help.
Get active in some hobby or sports, or with other people, don't let your mind dwell on your ex.
Don't think of what was, but of what can be. Look around, is there any one else that may interest you? If not yet, then stick to your friends, go out to dinner, a movie etc.
In time, you will get over it, the time in-between thinking of your ex, will become longer, and one day, he won't even enter your mind.
I know that is hard to believe, right now, but it happens to all of us. We need contact to stay with someone, when no contact occurs, they fade from ones memory.

An ex is like losing a loved one. You need to mourn the loss of your loved one, cherish the memories, bury him and move on. Life is about moving forward. Don't linger in the past. Although I'm sure it was great, it's over for a reason. Replacing an ex works for some but I'd party it up before I go and get into another relationship.

first of all, before u start seriously dating other people, u have to get to know ur self. i was in a five year relationship and when i got out i thought i could date other women and be over her, but that was wrong, i needed time to get to know my self more and know what i wanted in a woman. i am not saying close urself up, but take ur time. time really is the only thing that helps to get over a past love

In the meantime, you can catch up with old friends, get a job, get a hobby. Just do something that is safe, and that you enjoy and most important, keeps your mind busy.

You're gonna need some hobbies, and groups for people who enjoy the same hobbies..it's much better than just running out and dating, and you might find somebody more interesting at something like that instead of just hooking up with someone for the sake of hooking up.
