I know a person who went to the doctor and was out for three days from work. They provided a legitimate doctor note. The job now wants the doctor to send a letter stating what the illness is. The person has an excellent work history and does not miss work. The person feel that this is imposing on their privacy.
If, anyone is familiar with HIPPA, please share. Thank you in advance.

Oh yes, that is definitely a HIPPA no no! The person should tell the job that, and if nothing is resolved then report it to a Labor division.

An employee does not have to explain why they went to the doctor. That is confidential information and is definitely against privacy and HIPPA regulation. If the company has a written note stating the employee was in fact seen by the doctor, that is all they need to know.

Their request is imposing on an MD's Hippocratic Oath of privacy and respect for their clients personal information.

This should not be allowed, and if I were the employee I'd protest the issue.
