I've done it, and it's easy.
The still is easy and cheap, you need a pressure cooker (Goodwill) and some copper pipe, any auto shop they call it brake line.
You will need about 6-7 feet about 6 bucks.
And a large coffee can.
The pressure cooker has usually two openings the one on top that the pressure valve sits on and a second next to it that has a rubber grommet.
On mine I plugged the middle one and run the tubing through the rubber grommet.
Take a metal coffee can and punch a hole in the side on the bottom, then very very carefully bend the tubing so that many coils will fit inside the can with the end of the line sticking out through the hole in the bottom of the can, the other end on the top of the can should be bent at an angle so that it will reach in through the grommet on the pressure cooker. The bottom of the can should be sealed around the hole in the bottom with a hot glue gun.
You now have a still. the important part to remember is to fill the can 1/2 way with water ONLY until the still starts working then start tossing in ice. The tube will get very hot so be careful. Heat up slowly as the alchohol comes out first then the still will start producing water. The way to check to see if you are getting alchohol or water is one to taste the drippings, or to take a paper towel and touch it to the drippings and step away from the still and try lighting with a lighter, if it burns easily with a blue flame you are still making alchohol.
Make damn sure you use only fruit or suger to make alchohol as you run the risk of making wood alchohol otherwise.
As far as making the hooch thats easy, find an old water bottle the big glass ones are what I use, Maybe 20 gallon or so. Make sure they are clean rinse out with HOT water and maybe an ounce of bleach rinse very well.
Get about 5 bags of brown sugar and dissolve them one at a time in boiling water, then pour into bottle, will make about 5 gallons, loosly close the container and let it cool to room temperature, this is very important, after it is cooled put in the yeast.
Any kind will do, but if you want buy some brewers yeast it has a higher tolerence for alchohol.
Dissolve in tepid water, body temperature, then dump it in and watch it go. As far as sealing the top you can do one of two things either leave the cap loose or make a valve, a valve is easy you buy about 4 feet of plastic tubing, the get a bottled water container I guess dasani or whatever cut off the top just as it flattens out, cut into the bottle top to make a hole and insert tubing seal with hot glue gun. Put this on the top of the large bottle and seal with duct tape run other end of the plastic line into a cup of water this will let the CO2 to escape.
Good luck, I have done this for a while and have impressed people with the quality of my moonshine.
By the way buy a water filter and filter the proceeds from your still it will improve the taste.

I'm sure you can find some on the web somewhere. Basically, you need a boiling vessel, like an Erlenmeyer flask, a rubber stopper for the flask, a long curly glass tube to act as a condenser, and another flask to catch the distillate. You also need a controllable heat source like a bunsen burner or a hot plate.
For your base mash, you can use malt extract from homebrew stores to make a flavorless, flat beer. Then you need to boil that in the flask below 200F so the alcohol is removed but not the water.
Gosh, it's pretty involved when you get into it. Why don't you just go buy some Jim Beam?

Git yerself a barrel
3 hoses
5 clamps
a ball of twine
and about 5 lbs. of cabbage
Let it sit, covered for 22 days.
Drain off.
Use drained matter (mother) and add to barrel.
Let set for another 3 days, then, wooweee, invite the cousins, you got mountain dew!
