The microchip is definitely the way to go. If you can't find anyone near you who already performs the service regularly (my local pound actually requires all pets to have chips now), ask your local vet to look into AVID Microchip ID (on the web at http://www.avidmicrochip.com). Once the chip is injected, you just fill out the accompanying forms and send them into the company yourself, and the pet is added to a national database. If Fido ever gets lost, a kennel or pound with the equipment can scan him in painlessly (think supermarket check out) and contact you ASAP.

Yes one device you may be interested in is a dog locater. The collars battery lasts for about 5 years .It is a pricey system but if you are a rural resident or just have a very smart dog this is one of your best bets .Just look up dog locaters .Its used for tracking dogs etc.

Hi. An electric device for your pet's safety would be a microchip. It's inserted by a vet. Collars can get lost, so ask your vet about micro chipping. Take care.

The chip under the skin only holds owners information. If your dog is lost - a vet or the humane society can scan the dog to see if it has a chip & then retrieve the information & THEY find YOU.
I do not know of anything that YOU can have that will help you locate your dog if lost.
I have one in my dog - just in case !

To the best of my knowledge, the only collars for dogs are used to keep them within a certain perimeter...usually shocking the dog. Seems kind of cruel! It sounds like the micro chip embedded under the skin is the best method to keep track of your dog.
