Take a look at the world memory champion for numerous years (I forget how many! How ironic) Dominic OBrien he can remember vast amounts of information.

Example : Dominic set a new world record in August 2000 at the WMC by memorising perfectly a random sequence of 316 numbers in just 5 minutes. That’s faster than 1 digit per second. He is the inventor of the Dominic System, a powerful technique to rapidly access the power of memory.

He has various books on the subject at amazon.com and i have seen him on TV take random people to memerize 30 items in 10 minutes.

I, to improve my menory, tend to write things down in a notebook and then never look at them again. Most of the time if I write it down and see it in my own handwriting I tend to retain it longer than if I'm told or read it somewhere!
