reproduction is a consequense of having sex. We are programmed to want/need sex as a way of getting us to reproduce. So the need we feel is to have sex...not to reproduce.

To be close to your lover, to feel good, to be close to another human being. Stuff like that.
I don't have sex to reproduce at all, because I'm gay. Although, it is pretty rare for people to have sex and intend to have a child. Usually, it's like, two married people try to have a baby. Everyone else who has sex PROBABLY isn't wanting a kid out of it.
It pisses me off when religious fanatics try to use the argument that gay sex isn't trying to reproduce, while natural sex is. Wake up call: SO few people have sex and want children, so they do want they can to avoid it, whether it be through hormones or condoms or both. Such a retarded argument. If you only have sex to have babies, you aren't going to be having much sex in your life.

It's a wonderful way to bond with someone. Sex fulfills many functions: reproduction, pleasure, satisfaction with life, gaining status with a higher staus mate, and so on. Primates are quite sexual, and human beings are the most sexual animals of all.
