Try serving others and giving to them instead of 'helping yourself' to everything.
You will be surprised how humble you get without even trying and how GOOD it feels to be doing something for humanity.

There is nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments or having the drive to be the best at something. The great failings of pride are not knowing you limits and the inability to admit when you are wrong.

For someone to push you towards pride is a bit vague. To live a humble life though simply means that you should not go around bragging about yourself and telling everyone how good you are. You should do things to the best of your ability, but not rub it in other people's faces when you perform better than they do. If you want to measure up to someone, do it against yourself. If you strive to better your own abilities you are not being prideful.

There is virtue and there is vice. Virtue is the development of a quality, to the betterment of self and others... Vice is the development of a quality to enhance ego... at the sacrifice of others. Vice is usually taken to extremes.

Pride can become either a virtue or a vice. Pride as a virtue is not a sin... in fact we are encouraged in the bible to have pride or self-worth... in our accomplishments... "a man is worth is his hire.." This means that if a man has abilities... he should charge for those abilities (have self-worth) and should be paid for such! But the person does not do so by flaunting his EGO to be praised and aggrandized... that is PRIDE.

It is when Pride is taken to excess/extreme that it becomes one of the seven DEADLY SINS... note the word... deadly, and this is at the expense of enhancing the EGO to the point where ... Humility is non existent.

Virtue, even taken to an extreme/excess is wrong... you become a zealot and that can be deadly also.

I believe it is okay to live a life that you are proud of. It is important though to retain a good degree of humility. It is okay to accomplish a lot, to be viewed as "great" in the eyes of others, just always know that there is someone out there who does what you do better than you do. It's better to humble yourself than to meet them someday and have them humble (or embarass) you.

Think of sports stars, and how others view them. People generally loathe the ones that are outspoken and take their obvious talents for granted. People put on a pedestal the ones who are thankful for their talent (openly or quietly) and are gracious in both victory and defeat.

Be realistic about yourself, and never lord yourself and your accomplishments over other people.

self esteem is not the pride of the seven deadly sins. the pride they talked about there is was what makes one believe they are better than anyone else and above the common law. That pride justifies immoral behavior by rationalizing superiority over others and is the sin of many in positions of power.
