Is the US not taking action in Dafur because they are predominantly Muslims, just like they did nothing when the Serbs were killing the Muslims in Central European Bosnia. What conclusions can be drawn from this?

To some answerers, This is my point. GWB and the NeoCons tell us that they are killing Iraqis because they wanted Regime change. Why, because of oil or are the Iraqis a special people? If you want to stop carnage and brutality the world over you can not pick and choose. Intellectually insincere is the best and kindest thing I can say about this situation.

People keep missing the point. These other bodies and countries have not put themselves forward as the worlds policemen.. The US does. So it cannot afford to overlook Criminal activity where it exists. They are talking about IRAN at the moment, Sorry that has Oil too. sorry.

America is not alone in their disregard of African atrocities. It's got nothing to do with being Muslim. It has to do with the fact that there isn't an economic necessity to go in there and do anything unfortunately. Unless we stand up as humans and say something our governments won't do anything about it.

That is complete nonsense! Of course something must be done in Darfur...would some other countries please step up to the plate...we've got our friggin hands full.
We sure as heck did come to the aid of the Muslims in Bosnia. As much as the former administration could without alienating his constituent base.
Everyone claims America should be somewhere else dealing with other problems. ...all the time knowing full well they'd be slinging sh!t at us for being there too.

In response to your (first 2 ...I'm sure there will be more) additional details.

Your point is not missed...it's just baseless. You and the "I don't care what's right, as long as Bush is wrong" crowd tell us we are disingenuous because we aren't all over the world kicking the arses of all tyrants simultaneously. You also want to believe that America, with it's incomprehensibly vast untapped arctic oil fields, is so desperately hungry for Iraqi oil that it will sacrifice its servicepeople and the good Saddam regime to get at it.

Clearly the three greatest treats to world security were Iraq, Iran and North Korea. Intellectually it would be idiocy to go after them all at the same time...and the only possible course is to pick and choose. We didn't go after your recommendation? Well.. we didn't elect you to make that decision.

The situation in Darfur ... just as the situation was in Kurdish Iraq ... is beyond horrific and I am disgusted that the civilized nations of the world are not all over it. (USA included) But for the USA to do so would be folly for our own security at this time. (Again... for the sake of humanity action must be taken in Darfur...but truthfully world security is hardly threatened by Sudan)

America is regarded as the worlds policemen precisely because others are unwilling to put themselves forward and make the sacrifice. Others bask in the confident knowledge that America and the responsible coalition will keep the world safe for them.

I don't think it is the U.S.'S business what is going on in the dafur region. The only time the US should ever take any action is when the US is attacked. We are not the worlds police force ...the dafurs need to take care of their own problems.

One, there's no profit in it...Two, it's not an issue that the average American voter is concerned with, politicians act on issues that get votes.......If I may ask, why does America have to do something about it? We're not the only country with the means to intervene. Where are the fellow Muslims and their troops? Where are the other African forces? Where is the U.N.? Why does everyone think it's America's job to clean up everybody's mess.

No one ever said that we weren't helping in Darfur because they are predominantly Muslim, and I'm appauled that you would even insinuate such a thing. Please don't make this out to be about race. It's not. What is happening there is a terrible, horrendous crime, but us not taking action has NOTHING to do with race.

Good question, I wonder myself. I also wonder why the Black church in America is not protesting this. Those people being murdered and run out of their homes are christian. Seems like the only people making any noise are the white Baptist and some Pentecostals.

You can safely conclude that George W has his head up his A**! He lacks common sense and intelligence and I would bet if pressed he could not locate the Sudan, let alone Darfur, on a map. Hell, he might have trouble finding Africa.

Well, there is no money in the U.S. to help them and fight a war in Iraq. Plus, we are still dealing in Afganistan and in the beginning stages of involvment with Iran.

Because they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

If they do, the liberals start screaming about imperialism...etc, if they don't, they start screaming that we're in Iraq and Afganistan and why are we not somwhere else too.
