Small Town Fundraiser for sick man?

I live in a small town. I'm among a group of other citizens who wants to do some type of fundraiser to show support for one of the longstanding town members who was recently forced to quit working due to MS. All ideas are much appreciated.

We are planning on having some type of silent auction/ concert fundraiser to raise money for the Histiocytosis Association in honor of our son. Perhaps these are ideas that would work in your town as well? You don't have to have a big name for the concert, it can be someone local. When its a fundraiser, people will come no matter who it is. Local businesses are also great about donating for auctions.
