I could just make something up, but I was wondering if there was some accepted format? Should it be in a letter format, and include more than just a thank you?
Anyone written one?
Really appreciate your responses. Thank you.

No, cards, or anything right? Like greeting cards... Someone told I should send them that, but that just sounds stupid... lol

When students at our institution are awarded endowed funds ("named" scholarships), they are required to write letters such as these. A rule of thumb: if you are unsure, err on the site of formality -- letter format, formal tone. Below are some recommendations from various schools; it's good to follow them but, if you can, interject something personal, too.

I had this same problem. One of the scholarships I won was from a random drawing and my parents wanted me to write a thank you letter. What was I supposed to write, "Thanks for picking my name out of a hat?" Instead, for the scholarships I have won, I just got a thank you card and wrote inside: Thank you for the time and energy you put into making this scholarship possible. I really appreciate the money. It is short and sweet. If you are more familiar with the people or organization you received the award from, you can make it more personal.

It should be in standard letter format. Basically saying thank you. If it was awarded to you for doing something, thank them for recognizing you in that area. If it was from a private instituation (as in not the school you'll be going to) tell them something like "it will be very useful in contributing to my education at (blank) University". If it is from the university, probably not necessary to send one even.

A thank you letter is saying thank you for doin' bla bla and a appreciation letter is kind of the same thing but it just said he/she appreciate what ever you did.
