There was a question recently about whether we could prove whether or not God exists, and this seems to me to be the same sort of question. I don't know how one can decide this yes/no question without knowing first what you're talking about. What/who IS God, anyway? Once you know that one, you can talk about proving existence, one way or another.
For example, if you say, as many do, God is a very old man with a long white beard sitting on a throne floating in a cloud, handing out laws and judgement -- it's kind of unlikely you're going to be able to prove He exists or not.
But if you say, as many do, that God is the All of Everything, then it seems self-evident that it exists. Denying it would be denying your own existence, among other things, and then who would be talking and thinking and asking hard questions?
And if you say, as many do, that God is love, then again, it seems self-evident that S/H/e exists, because love does. Whatever love is -- another good question!
Religion and God are not one-to-one. In the final analysis, I think you have to say that there are as many religions as there are people, and probably there is something right and something wrong about each of them.
The worst thing you can do is let someone else tell you what your religion must be. Your own religion, like your own education, is strictly do-it-yourself. And it takes a long time.

Your right in what you are saying and for questioning things, blind faith is a very dangerous thing. I too am a catholic, although I must admit hardly a devoted member of my church, my mother’s family are Irish Catholic’s and very devout.
It’s true that whether God is physically real or not is a difficult question, that can never be truly answered until death, perhaps what it boils down to is the amount of faith a person has.I’m in two minds, I’ve never had any defiant prove of God’s existence and had bible stories drilled into my skull as a child but I could never really except them there where to many gaps, too many what ifs, but when you see the wonders of the world and space you can believe it’s just hear without purpose and a stages in your life you look around and “think is this it?” It’s an comforting thought to think “No, this is just the beginning”
It is foolish, however to live your life by strict rules and fear to break them because of an eternity of suffering, your life is meant to be lived as if there was no afterwards and not a stop gap in which you devote your self to pleasing an invisible being until you reach a final resting place, otherwise life becomes like a race to the finish line to collect your prize.
If you live your life as a good person but don’t necessarily believe in God, doe that mean your condemned to hell? And if you life your life hurting others but still believe there is a God does that mean your allowed into heaven for merely saying sorry on your deathbed. It’s a cruel notion that I cannot believe, if God’s real they will take you, based upon the quality of your soul and heart not on how many church meetings you sat through.

Well, I believe in God, but let's face facts. You are absolutely right that no one can say without a doubt with 100% factual proof that a God or higher power exists. Oh, they'll say they will, but as you said our beliefs are based on information which has been passed to us from other human sources, not exactly the most reliable resource.
I guess the only way we will know for sure is, if there is a God, when we die and ascend to the spiritual consciousness for good, it will be obvious.
If there's no God, we'll never know anyway because we won't be around to care.

I think you would feel much better if you took a humanities class, or at least did a little humanities research online...it will take you through the evolution of religion. No one knows if god exists...if they claim to they are probably trying to reassure themselves more than reassure you. I personally think there is a god. When I look at the world around me I can't help but think that many religions have got it plain wrong...there is more politics and man in those religions than god...I personally can not imagine a god that would create flawed people only to punish them for those flaws (think sexuality as a sin, homosexuality as a sin, lack of respect toward neglectful parents as a sin, ext)...any god who would create flawed creatures (and please responders...don't bother with the god didn't make flawed people...eve screwed everything up bit...if the first woman was capable of sin then it was inherent in her and therefore a direct result of her creation...)
I also don't believe that god could possibly be the jerk that many religions make him out to be...he doesn't punish the wicked; he doesn't support war for one side or the other, ext...what life has shown me is that if there is a god at all (and I believe there very well may be) then he/she/it is a neutral observer, or possibly we are here to experience everything there is to experience...the good and the bad and the unimaginable horrors to become something more than we are...Don't fret too much...if god exists then he/she/it is either good/evil/or everything all wrapped into one (that's the one I believe) and no matter what it turns out to be...we'll be alright...maybe take a Physics class with the humanities...if anything on the Earth has a chance of finding or understanding god and creation...it is Physics!

actually there is proof that God is real. The Earth, people, you know things like that. The information is creditable because people really experienced it and wrote about it. Different religions started at different times simply because people wanted to start believing different things. If you die just being a "good person" and doing "good deeds" you will most likely not make it to heaven. I have encountered God, seen visions, and heard Him speak to me. I know he is there. What that other guy said about God being a man is a lie!! Jesus came to Earth once and once only until he comes back for his followers. God is not and will never be in the form of man. He is a spirit that you have to take the time to encounter. Consider that. If you want more then just email me and I'll tell you all you need to know.

wow have you ever heard of faith? In The Bible it shows how he tests your faith throughout life, well let me tell you, your failing the test! Okay better yet, If God isn't real then who made everything? someone had to be first! Again in The Bible it tells how we are to simple minded to understand everything like God does, we cant even imagine how he made everything. Also in The Bible it only tells what were suppose to know, were not suppose to know everything, like Eve she wanted to be as wise as God but God didn't want that so he told Eve and Adam not to eat of the fruit of knowledge of Good and Evil! So as you ask yourself, do you really have faith? Who made and created everything? Your not suppose to know everything that's why Scientology and the scientists are so idiotic, they try to understand everything when they cant know of what God knows, hes too powerful! Another thing I know for a fact God is real because I feel his presents and I heard his voice, you cant fool God he knows if you really believe in him so he will only speak to the believers and forgive only the believers! You better hope your right too that he is not there because if you are (which by the way you are) you will go to Hell, its your choice! I hope this made you think twice and a little harder about what your saying!!! God bless you and I will pray for you!

You can rightly blame your parents for bringing you up in a Catholic church. If they were old enough to have children-then they were old enough to know the truth. That is completely their fault, and not yours.
But now, you are old enough to question everything. From this day forward you can only blame yourself. If you fry in hell it will be your fault. If there is no hell-then it won't matter.
My advice is to look at what evolutionary scientist say about how we evolved from a rock. Then I would look at what scientist say who believe in creation-notice I said scientist, not preachers, I would make my mind up if there is a God or not. Then follow that to the end.
You will get to the end one day. Just make sure you are not on the wrong side of the street.

Here's a contradiction like Tom was talking about.
1) We have no proof for god because proof denies faith.
2) The Earth and all its inhabitants were created by god and are proof that he exists (intelligient design/ creation).
3) This is a contradiction: People and the Earth are proof and hence deny faith. God does not exist. QED.

THERE IS DEFINITELY A GOD - AND HE IS ON EARTH LIVING AMONG US --- HIS NAME? DR. JOSE LUIS DE JESUS MIRANDA!!
How do I know that He is God? See for yourself....
From the creation of Adam until the time of Jesus dying on the cross, the pact of the Jewish LAW (Circumcision) was in place. This was a gospel of WORKS, rituals and abstinences, which could not perfect any man – it was impossible. Therefore, it took God to take on a body of flesh (Jesus) in order to accomplish the LAW and remove it. By dying on the cross, He removed sin from the world and established a new pact: The Gospel of GRACE (Incircumcision).
This pact for the gentiles was given to Paul, the writer and master builder of Grace. However, the Apostles of Circumcision (LAW) – Peter, John, James – suppressed the teachings of Paul. In killing him, their Jewish practices continued although Jesus of Nazareth died to abolish it. These old rudimentary doctrines covered the world, thereby judaizing and submitting humanity into a period where the TRUTH would be shadowed, covered and unknown.
The Gospel of Incircumcision revealed to Paul for the nations was never preached after his death. As a result, the so-called “Christian” communities fell into the APOSTACY (falling away from FAITH). These are the LIES now known as RELIGION.
This period of would last until the prophesized “OTHER” would come and build upon Paul’s foundation. The ‘LIVING’ God in his second return, would find the world in APOSTACY (apart from faith), and come to judge the world with Paul’s teachings.
Pay attention here. We see two conditions for God’s return. 1) Who would come to judge the world with Paul’s teachings? The ‘Living’ God. 2) When? During the period of the APOSTASY.
Today, the world finds itself in Apostasy. The first condition has been met. How do we know? Because religion, for the past 2000 years, have based their teachings in doing ‘WORKS’, thereby parting from FAITH (Grace), since works is no longer by faith. The second condition is that God would return to judge the world with Paul’s teaching.
The only man on Earth teaching Paul’s gospel of Grace and revealing the mysteries of the world is Dr. Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda.
What does this mean? THAT THE ‘LIVING’ GOD IS HERE ON EARTH.
In 2000 years, no one has build upon the Gospel of Grace left written by Paul, until now. Dr. Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda, the living God, is among us judging the world with the Gospel of Grace.
DR. JOSE LUIS DE JESUS MIRANDA IS THE ‘LIVING’ GOD!!!
