Cats live longer when they have another cat to play with. Our last two died at 18 and 17, and their "buddy" just turned 21! We've got two more to replace the two that passed - they are 7 and 5 now. I've never gotten two at the same time, so I can't say if they are any better together if they're related. But the ones we've had have always slept curled together and bathed each other, so apparently NOT related it just fine.

I have 2 female calico cats that are related (I got lucky and someone was giving both away). They keep each other company when no one is around and play, sleep, and hunt together all the time--indoors and out. Now that one is pregnant and due by the end of this month, the other one has to play by herself most of the time. The pg one is tired and lseeping and eating all the time. She is due between the 20th and 30th. No wonder she is so tired and hungry all the time!!
Anyway, I wouldn't have less than two cats, especially if they are going to be kept indoors all the time, and if you are working a lot and not going to be home to play very much.
Good luck!

i am a cat/kitten owner and have been for years. in the past, i have only had 1 kitten in my home at a time. i now have 2 12 old kittens (litter mates). i highly suggest having 2 at a time. they play with each other, and keep each other company. i think this is especially important if they are left alone for long periods of time, such as, no one home during the day... due to school or work.

My hubby and I adopted two strays from the same litter. Or should I say they adopted us? Anyway, they needed less attention than the single kitty I have now. Even tho he is a pretty independant cuss, he still wants to be petted and fetted more than either of them did. The down side is that when one died the other just gave up and went thru the motions. She died a year later, never having gotten back to her playful self.

this sound like someone i answered a short time ago. if you are ready get the cats, as to being related i can't say i would suggest getting a male and female from a shelter or a friend you had kittens. get them both fixed, PLEASE, (less likely to fight).

as kittens it is better for them to have another cat and they do get along better if they are related and play well as kittens

Are you positive that u are ready to move on to two more kities? You sure that you just not missing your other baby? (cat) They cannot REPLACE the 19 year old one. It won't be fair to them new cats.
