I really love cats, and I want to get one in the future. Problem is, ever since I was little, Iv'e been allergic to cats. I love them so much that I pet and play with them anyways, but afterwards my eyes get itchy, I start sneezing, my throat itches etc. Is there anything I can do to get rid of these allergies ( So that it won't happen ever again while I have the cat )?

some allergists will do a desensitization therapy. But it costs big money. But thats your call if you have to have a cat.

I was allergic to cats when I was younger and I grew up with dogs. I have had at least 1 cat for the last 6 years, and I got over my allergy just having them around all the time. Now however, when I go to my mom's, I get itchy eyes from her dogs.

If you have a friend that has a cat or cat(s), go over and pet her cats for like 3-5 minutes the first day, then if it goes ok, gradually increase the time you spend with cats, your body will gain resistence to the cats as time goes on.
I had the exact same thing, only with horses... I was DEATHLY allergic to horses, and so i started out with gloves at first, and gradually decreased my protection against them, and now i never get broken out into hives, wheeze, or get teary eyed when im around them... its been about a year, and i can spend as much time around them as i want.
Good Luck!

I'm allergic to cats, but love them so much that I own two anyway. Allergy shots might help, but I've also found that your body can adjust to certain cats after prolonged exposure. Also, don't touch your eyes after petting them, and wash your hands after touching them, too. I also take Claritin - D. It's worked great for my allergies, and I can be around my babies comfortably as long as I don't bury my face in their fur or rub my eyes after touching them.

unfortunately there is not much you can do
I was slightly allergic when I was younger, it got worse when as an adult, I wheeze, cough, eyes tear, throat gets itchy
really BAD, you can try giving the cats baths regularly, but there is honestly not much you can do. Even after they are gone, the dander /mites live on for months .

I also have allergies but I do also have 5 cats...and they very rarely bother me. Go to the doctor and ask about a nasal spray.
