I was horrified to read your question. As the mother of a seven and nine yr old, I would be furious if they came home with that kind of information. The older one has asked me what drugs are, and I explained, without going into details of particular ones and their spellings. I think it would be wiser that the school invite the parents one evening, and have a specialist give them a lesson on drugs. We think we know it all from when we were younger, but there are new things happening all the time. There is a big problem with teenagers inhaling aerosols - even deoderants and air freshners, so any parents should watch out for them being empty too soon. As for 7 yr olds - I think it's too young for specifics. I wish you all the best.

We should teach our children the dangers about drugs. I do think that 7 is way to young to get to detailed though. We have a daughter who is 7 and we teach her that they are bad, but the way we do it is put it in words that she can understand. I don't think sending a puzzle home with the kids is the right thing to do. It could possibly make kids think that drugs are a game.

I think it is great!! The earlier the better. When my kids were little, their school told them smoking was bad and they came home everyday and said "Mom smoking is bad for you. You should stop." I would go outside and smoke so they wouldn't see me. Finally, I did stop. Both of my children are in college now. As far as I know neither of them have used drugs. And, I believe teaching them early will help them handle peer pressure in the future.
Great question! Good Luck!

It seems very earlier but let it be now than never. I remember the first encounter for me with a cigarette was 10. Children do things at early ages that the parent doesn't know becasue it's bascially done on the playground. Drugs have no age really.

My son is now 13 but he has been very innocent. He has Aspergers syndrome and is very intelligent in many ways, but not in social skills. I do believe that in the society now that there are many more opportunities for our children to be led astray and that they are much more informed than we were when we were their age. I know it is confusing for a young child to hear about such things but we can help to make them understand by listening to their concerns and addressing them as simply as age allows. As they get older the explanations may get more complex so sometimes we need others help. If so seek out other trusted sources and either glean the info or ask that source to talk to your child.

It is never to early to start teaching your children about drugs and how bad they are. I started discussing with my son when he was 5 and he's 11 now and I continue to talk to him about it on a daily basis just to remind him, they are more things to do in life than drugs or gangs. Keep the kids active in sports or school activites. Remember as weird as the statement may be. "Hugs are better than Drugs". Hugs to you and your family.

There are people who target children on a daily basis and i think children should know about daily dangers when their old enough to comprehend good from bad. Kudos for your daughters school for keeping up to date and knowing that there could potentially be a day when a child in the second grade could be solicited for drugs.

I think so i don't think children that young need to know names and stuff about drugs just a general impression that they should ask their parents before eating anything and never take anything from strangers

I think that the earlier we start to talk about important issues like drugs with our kids, the better. The sooner that they learn about how dangerous they are, the more likely they are to stay away from drugs when they get older.
