I believe its a recessive gene, since fawn is dominate. So i dont think there is any set formula, although a ***** thats known for throwing black, or a sire thats known for producing them is a pretty fair bet.

Im my breed black is domainate so the only way to get black is to have a black (or blue) parent. actually I don't think boxer shave the second gene that turns a black dog into blue (Ok more slate grey but...) so you're only option is black. Note: black & tan is recessive to fawn so you can get it form two fawn parents.
PS heart problems are common in boxers make sure you get his heart checked as well ahs hip & eyes first.

I Have a flashy fawn female and i breed her with a black masked male 4 years ago and well it doesn't matter what you breed them with, it's whats in their blood line. Just make sure that with boxers there was no all white pups in the blood line. they tend to have hearing problem and don't like very long due to heart problems they use to put the white ones down asap i know alot about boxers check back with me anytime

I am going out on a limb here, if I am incorrect I am sure I will be corrected.
Unless you are a genetic expert, and maybe not even then, I don't think there is any way you can breed to guarantee a certain color combination.
I did read that certain spotted horses are producing only spoted babies, regardless of what colors bred to.
I know color will jump out at you from 4 or 5 generations back without any warning.
I think the only color that is always dominate is red with red.
And that is supposed to produce only red.
Come on people correct me if I am wrong....I want to know also.
