Take a look at the 2006 Toyota RAV4 - you can get a 3rd row of seating as an option in the Base and Limited models, which allows it to seat at least 6. The 3rd row probably isn't good for adults, but will work great for kids I believe. It also gets good gas milage in the 4 cylinder/front wheel drive model: 30mpg highway, 24mpg city.
Another option that's a cross between a minivan, SUV and station wagon is the Ford Freestyle. It seats 6 or 7 more comfortably than the RAV4, although it won't give you as good of gas milage.

If I had a bicycle -a million If I had a moped - a million If I had bike - 2 inclusive of a pillion passenger. If I had bike with a side vehicle -2 If I had a sensible vehicle - 2 If I had a vehicle - 5 If I had a van (delivery style) -2 or 3 (relies upon on the size.) If I had a van (passenger) - One for each seat If I had a lorry (truck) - 3 If I had a custom - One seat for each passenger and crew. If I had an aeroplane - a seat for each passenger and crew member If I had a deliver, ferry, deliver even with - relies upon on ability and protection limits. besides the indisputable fact that, if I did attempt tochronic any of the above i'd be arrested as i have not has any utilising training.

You may not like this car, but the Chrysler/ Dodge minvans are excellent on gas and they seat 7 very comfortably. If you go the extra mile, find a minivan with the new "Stow n Go " package for even more room. The only other option is a full size Lincoln/ Mercury but not as easy on the wallet or gas. the minivans you can expect 20mpg...Not too bad

Good luck on the gas piece. There is nothing out there. The next 5 years, there will be major changes in the market here. If gas milage is your primary concern, do a cost estimate on a used vehicle for this vs a new vehicle. I believe that you'll find out that even with the fuel prices up, the amount you will save on insurance and title costs by buying used vs new will more than pay for the fuel savings you would have in one of the new fuel efficient vehicles.

A wagon would be your best bet for maintaining fuel economy while still fitting several people. Minivans and SUVs tend to weigh more.

i own a Chrysler Voyager and it is a very spacious minivan. it is very economic on gas, and it could seat 7 people very comfortably. i have taken my grandson, nieces and nephews to church with me and they also use car seats.
