The Lexmark X5150 All-in-One Center is a flat bed scanner; meaning that you lift the lid on the top of the unit, you then lay your picture/document on top of the glass face down, close it and press the button. And presto you have scanned a picture!

There is also what is called a sheet fed scanner; meaning that you would put the document/picture into the tray on the bottom of the unit, it's then fed up through the top of the unit.

My scanner is also a: printer, fax, PC fax, and a copier. It is extremely user-friendly, has a simple main menu window and very easy to use, and it's relatively inexpensive as well. You probably won't be disappointed.

Of course, if you want to spend a few more dollars you can opt to buy a Dell or Hewlett Packard (HP). The more money you spend the better quality scans, pictures, and so forth, but, it doesn't sound like you're looking for something extravagant any way. I have been super happy with my purchase. It has never let me down.

I hope I've helped you with your question. Have a great day!

Scanners are not that are hard as itis. Most plug into the wall and a usb jack in your computer. New compuetrs make it easy. Go to control panels add hardware plug it in and the compuetr will find it. A scanner will just put the image you have on your computer.

Radio shack has a good variety of scanners but the best one is dual or triple trunking scanner that allows you to hear all of the conversation

Microtek has easy to use scanners, even for the beginners. Make sure you know what kind of port your computer has to support the hardware. USB is the most popular right now.

I bought an HP flatbed at Staples for $50 (great sale, not normal price) and I <3 it. I can copy, scan directly to email (smaller size) or scan to a file with the touch of a button.
