Because you can drink in moderation and be okay and live a long healthy productive life. If you smoke pot it kills your brain functions, including memory. In the long run a pothead becomes a pretty useless person. Why not just skip them both? It works for millions of people, why not you?

Pot cannot trigger schizophrenia nor does it truly effect your brain chemistry. All it does is change the way your synapses respond to stimulation. You cannot go crazy by smoking a joint.

Pot is better for you than beer - in fact, recent studies have shown that marijuana's link even with lung cancer, the long holdout of the anti-pot nutjobs, is minimal to non-existant!

Don't listen to the anti-potheads who sit there and get drunk instead.

As a note: pot is like TV. It has no addictive substance nor do you grow chemically dependent on it. When you've been watching TV for 6 months straight, if it gets taken away you -will- show withdrawal symptoms. This is called -psychological addiction- which can occur from things such as reading, computers, and television. Like all things, -moderation- must be practiced. Potheads who get it taken away show withdrawal symptoms for 2 days - thats not addiction. Thats being bitchy cause you don't have any pot.

Beer is more dangerous than pot, in that it is more readily available to everyone....and legal to everyone. It's easier for someone to stop at a distributor and buy a case or two of beer (of five cases for a party) and get drunked up, than to stop and buy a fair amount of pot to get you and all of your friends stoned.

The answer wouldn't be to legalize the less evil, it would be to further restrict the legal. Prohibition did not work, which basically told the government that we need/want our alcohol. Notice that there isn't an uprising for pot. Sure you see the occasional legalize pot sign at rallies and such, but no major movement. We need to be more accountable to our alcohol sales to those under 21(18 in some states) and put harsher punishments on adults that provide alcohol to those not of legal age.

Well to answer the question you only have to look at the Prohibition Years( roaring 20's -1930's) Since there is big business in producing alcohol the legality of its use will always stay there. Business is conducted by the means of alcohol. When deals are made there is always a toast after made with alcohol. But pot on the other hand is considered as a "weed" since it grows just like weeds in your front lawn. Plus pot is offensive to others because of having to inhale smoke and for the perceived nature of the users. The public tends to view smokers of pot as individuals of lower intelligence. Just stating a fact of life no reflection of your actual intellect. Just a mere fact of societies view of smokers of pot.

No way. Beer will make you so wasted that you cant even walk, you have to sleep many hours to even be able to drive. Smokin pot gets you really high for about, if your lucky a couple hours and then you can drive home, you dont have to sleep pot off. it makes you relaxed and mellow, when drinking makes people wild and crazy, and dont ask me why they havnt legalized pot, they definately should, they would make billions of dollars, and keep the countrys economy in better status, just by selling a little pot.

you sound like my coworker. There are lots of things that are legal that are MUCH more dangerous than pot. Morphine, xanax, vicodin... granted those are by prescription, but my point remains. It's all the social accpentance of things. Beer and wine have been staples in society for thousands of years, it's legallity will NEVER go away (just look at what happened in the 20's with prohibition). Pot will always be seen as the dark side of society and I doubt it will ever be legal in the States.

ok ok, it appears that alot of you are not familiar with 100's of university studies that CLEARLY stat marijuana is FAR less dangerous than alcohol AND cigarettes. Just look it up, feel free to use the internet. Check your bible as well... Some where in genises "god put forth all the seed bearing herbs for man to use" and as far as the male breasts, and penis shrinking... ever heard of scare tactics? Do you also believe the anti pot commericials where people deflate and appear to be boneless because they smoked pot? Anyhow... also check your I-100 bill that passed in Denver colorado, and will be on the state ballot this fall... Marijuana is now legal in denver and on the verge of being legal in the state of colorado.

I think pot's illegal because the govt wants mexicans out(they brought it in), and a beer might not be as dangerous as a joint, but this all depends on the type of beer, and type of joint. Drinking, and smoking are bad for u, but why they oonly bust people who drink and drive, and just let plain drinkers go is beyond me if people get in trouble just for smoking a joint in their own homes. The laws will change as soon as one of the Bush twins, or Chelsea Clinton get into office though....u'll see. Alcohol was illegal at one time, but then people startaed crossing the border for it, and depriving our ecomy...so as soon as the govt figures out how to tax a plant....it'll be legal....like it is in Amsterdam.

This is more in response to some of the responses, not necessarily to the initial question.

Anything can be dangerous, it is all about how you incorporate it in your lives. Yeah, the naysayers think ooh pot is just "sooo" bad for you, but let's look at reality. For example, the retards that drive around talking on their f***ing cell phones (should that be illegal?), or what about the people that are so stuck on themselves that they have to change their appearance to reflect who they think they are, (should that be banned?) 'cause if I hear one more person say, "Does this make me look fat?" I think I'll vomit!

So in essence, how bad is raiding a refridgerator. I didn't kill anybody, cut them off in traffic, or make anybody feel like less of a person.

Can't we all just smoke a bong!

That is all.

they tried to make alcohol illegal once , with the bootlegging and mobster murders they repealed it, mostly based on alcohol company influence. the same thing's going on with pot but there are yet to be major companies with enough clout to change the gov's law.
when you get high, you notice things that are going on in the world the government would you rather not pay attention to. when you are drunk , you are mostly too disorentated to deal with the real problems. Berr makes you make less intelligent decisions thus increasing the tickets you can incur boosting the governments income. and everybody talking about pot causing cancer - that doesn't explain why cigarettes are still legal. sunshine causes cancer and that's legal. Beer causes gout, heart failure, liver cancer, cirrhosis, alcoholic hepatitis, not to mention alcohol poisoning.
