Use tweezers, grip the body and pull straight out so that the head comes with it. It sounds gross, I know, but that's really the only thing they suggest. Don't try to burn it, because doing so basically can make the tick regurgitate (again, gross, and I don't think I spelled it right) which will still release bacteria and defeats the whole purpose. Also check her all over if she runs in tall grass. Ticks are bad this year and they can be tiny, so look carefully.

How to remove a tick The standard method for removing an embedded tick is to use rounded tweezers, grasp the tick as close as possible to the skin surface, and then pull with slow steady pressure in a direction away from the skin. Take care not to crush or squeeze the body of the tick, because fluid forced out of the tick may contain infectious agents. After the tick is removed, wash the bite site with soap and water or an antiseptic. The person who removed the tick should wash his or her hands thoroughly. It may be a good idea to save the tick in case later identification may be necessary. Traditional methods of tick removal, such as applying fingernail polish, rubbing alcohol, or a hot match head to the tick, do not affect tick detachment. These methods also may induce the tick to salivate or regurgitate into the wound, thus transmitting more of an infectious agent.

Ticks typically embed their head into the flesh when they burrow in, and the heads are often broken off when removing the tick, which can lead to infections. To remove a tick so that the head comes out to, you must force the tick to release its mouth-parts from the flesh it is anchored in.
To do this easily, smear a bit of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) on the tick, wait about five minutes, and pull the tick off with tweezers, grasping it as close to the flesh of your pet as possible. Heat from a curling iron (NOT FLAME! NOT A CLOTHING IRON!) can also make a tick loose its grasp so that it can be removed.
For your own pet, a trip to the vet may be necessary to remove the embedded head of the tick, since it sounds as if it broke off into your pet.

hon, take the pup to the vet, and have him update all vaccines, check ears, between toes, etc for ticks etc. The get the pup started on a some kind of flea/tick regimen. Also ask vet if you have heartworm in your area. But again, take your new friend to the vet.

If it's a lump and he's in there, you have to get a flame, -- cigarrette works the best-- and come very close to the bump and it will come out. So to remove it, used a piece of paper towel and pinch it and the skin as if youre actually pinching some one.
this last step will also work if the tick is not completely in there.
after you take it out make sure you wrap it in paper and set it on fire until you hear a pop... of course dont set anythign else on fire.. place it in a bucket or on cement or something.
ps. hehe. make sure you hear a pop.. like a paper bag peing popped when you set it on fire... and put it out of course.

The easiest way to remove a tick is with rubbing alcohol. Dab the tick with rubbing alcohol and then remove the tick with tweezers.
DO NOT EVER USE THE TIP OF A HOT CIGARETTE TO BURN OFF A TICK!

if there are many ticks go to a vet. if there are only one or two, try a pair of tweezers and carefully remove them being sure to get the head and all. then go to the vet for flea and tick control medicine. good luck.

take her to a vet. Since it's embedded, it's better that a vet remove it. See if the pound(some do some don't) has a vet which will help you for free, or recommend a place to take her.
