Most people when they first hear my voice they are "like damn you country!" Sometimes people make jokes about my accent!

I live in the south (I am transplant) and find the accent unique and special. And that is how you should feel. The south is 'unique' - has it's own language. Just like people from Maine, NYork, NJ, Puerto Rico, and that wonderfull Louisiana bayou accent. That is what makes us UNIQUE. Europeans have different languages, we have different accents! even Europeans do. For example, I speak Italian - when I travel to Sicily, they automatically say: You learned your language on the wrong side of our country...it is Italian not Sicilian.

There is an island in the Chesapeake that spak Elizabethean (sp?) English amoung themselves..

So what do I think of the Southern accent? It is great, it is unique it is OURs! So to those who make fun of you? Just say to them: "That wasn't very nice. I don't make fun of your accent why should you of mine. I am proud to be a Southern Belle :)! I expect your respect"

If the person doesn't apologize, IGNORE them. They are rude, insensitive and if they don't like you for what you are - good riddance! Always be proud of who you are and your heritage.

I actually have because that stopped doing that.... *blush*

I'm from the south, and there are a lot of accents down here. Florida is technically south XD. but more seriously, I don't have a badly southern accent (My mom has a bad drawl) and most of my friends call me a yankee... But ive never lived further north than NC.

I love it. I'm from Texas, but I live in the city, so my accent is not that strong. But I love girls from the country that have southern accents. So sexy to me. I might tease them a bit about it, but only because I like it so much.
