First, think about what his hobbies or interests are. Take Golfing or Fishing, for instance. Next, think of what he might need or use for these hobbies. Narrow it down and then do a search on Google to see what comes up.
Also, be sure to make or buy a really nice card.
I used to buy my ex a new fruit tree at the nursery every year...he loved that. If your kids are old enough, you might want them to make him something, too. A good idea is to put their little hands in paint and have them imprint their handprints on a white t-shirt for him, then use fabric paint to write their names underneath and maybe a sentiment like "World Best Father"

Depends on the age of your kids. Though it is nice to give him something he alone likes, Father's Day is because he is a father. So, in my opinion he should get something the kids thinks he would like, somthing they made or something he can do with the kids. His birthday and Christmas are for the gifts that are there just to suit him.

Take him out to eat where ever he wants even if its chuck e cheese.
or have pictures of him & the kids blown up to like an 8x10 or something (make sure they are pictures he likes thou)
or make a big card out of poster board, you can decorate it & list all the reasons of why he is a great father, you can tape his favorite candy or snacks to the card even if it is a box of chez its
or bake him a cake, cookies, or brownies all guys like food

i think u shud involve the kids and maybe make something for him....and u cud buy him some kind of gift but have the kids make a picture frame or something daddy can display and show off!
