I like to use butter flavored crisco. But remember if the recipe calls for butter and you subsitute shortening you may need to add some water to make up for the water that would have been in the butter.

1 cup crisco + 6 teaspoons water = 1 cup butter or margarine.

You can use applesauce in the place of butter and lard and vegetable oil in most recipes. Much healthier and you can't taste the "apple" in your stuff.
