It's VERY obvious that we should of course go to the doctor if we;re having a serious problems, but some people get on here to get personal experience. Why do people even answer if all they are ging to say is, "you should go to the doctor" NO SH^T! Why can' they just anwer the questions?

DUH, it's so stupid, cause it only shows that the people who say, "go to the doctor's only have a one track mind."

If the person is so dumb that they would sue an anonymous person for not telling them to go to the doctor? Is that a joke? What the hell? Suing someone they don't even know from adam for "not telling them to go to the doctor's" so stupid, do you even see what you are writing people?

Because people post questions asking for a specific diagnosis "I have these symptoms, what can it be?" or "Am I pregnant?". As soon as someone asks you to diagnose a specific set of symptoms, you are heading out on to thin ice to give a specific answer. That is called practicing medicine. Even a real licensed doctor would not try to diagnose an illness in this situation, there are too many things that don't get said, that a doctor might be able to ask in a two way conversation or see during the exam.
I am more than happy to discuss things of a general nature such as "is this symptom a symptom of this disease", or "what are the side effects of this drug?". But I am smart enough to answer the question "is the drug I am taking causing this side effect?" with the answer "that is a great question for your doctor".

Because anyone who expects medical advice from strangers without a medical degree needs to be told to make a common sense decision. That means telling them to go to the doctor! Most people do try to help with as much advice as they feel comfortable giving. However, I don't think anyone wants to be responsible for someone ignoring a serious medical problem because of advice from this site. This is not a substitute for a doctor!!

1.We live in a society where people like to sue people. Even on the Internet it may be possible to find someone and sue them.
2. Some people don't always get the "VERY obvious" issue.
3. It's the right way to answer the question.

because if someone on here says this is what you should do and then they end up getting sicker or dying they could be sued, and a good lawyer could win the case for the accuser... it is always best when giving medical advice to emphasize the fact that your dr. is always the best person to ask for medical advice and that only they can give you true answers
how does that make them have a one track mind? yes i can give you advice, but the only person who knows for sure whether or not that is good advice or even at all advisable is a medical doctor.... my personal experience may different than someone elses, and even slightly different symptoms may merit a different treatment

I answer and try to give my personal experiences if I've had any with whatever particular ailment they're talking about. Usually I just tack on "go to the doctor" at the end because...well, people shouldn't really be taking our advice for it! We're not licensed physicians. But yeah, I'm all about relating my personal experience. I don't just answer "Go to the doctor" to every single health question I come across.

Sometimes people ask stupid questions (ie- my water just broke, what should I do?). The obvious answer in those cases is to go to the doctor. Other times, people don't give enough information to get a specific response (ie- I have a rash. It itches. What should I do?), so you have to refer them to the doctor so the doctor can diagnose whether it is chicken pox or poison ivy or heat rash.

believe it or not, some ppl WON'T go to the doctor. It is a way of telling the asker that more reliable information is needed. Even answers that "make common sense" might be the OPPOSITE of what a medical professional would recommend.

They probably don't know anything about medicine. People simply want to answer the politically correct way, instead of actually trying to help someone. Not everyone has the accesibility to a medical professional. I understand your anger related to this.

people don't always specify that they want others experiances...they just ask what they should do. when i answer that they should see a doc its because it sounds like a serious problem and its probably not best to leave your personal health questions to a message board.
