I love my cat. She is perfect in everyway EXCEPT she has a problem going number 2 in the litterbox once a week! We have tried moving the litterbox, adding a litterbox, changing the litter, and moving her food where she makes her mistakes. I am all out of options, what do I do!!!

We went to the vet and he gave me all the options we have already tried. (However, it is nice to know it has nothing to do with sickness.)

Actually, she has made her "mess" the litter box is clean. We clean it every day.

Also, we started with a covered litterbox and we were still have the problems then.

Larger litter box and/or add one more. Those plastic sweater boxes that fit under a bed are perfect, if it is really tall then u may have to cut a walkway in it. She might just be to big or too long to fit in it and dance around the dirty stuff...

My cat used to do this too. I assumed that he thought he was in the litterbox and just missed. I've solved this problem by buying a litterbox that has a top on it. It's a circular litterbox with a dome-shaped cover and a cut out for him to enter. This way he gets into the litterbox and cannot go #2 over the side. He hasn't missed since I've gotten it (6 months ago). I think it was about $30-40 at Petco.

The covered litterbox is a good idea. Sounds to me as if she is protesting tho. Have you checked how clean the box is when she makes her "mistake", maybe she is telling you it is not clean enough for her. If this is the case, you might go to the expense of a self cleaning box. Then she will have a fresh box each time.

My cat had that problem. The vet said to make another litter box, that is exactly the same as the first. He said that cats are picky about smell and stuff and that my cat probably didn't like doing everything in one litter box. It has worked so far!

the only thing i can think of is to take her to the vets. she mite have an infection causing pain, and she associates it with the box. otherwise just try a larger box good luck.
