Serious usually means, that your injuries or your overall health is bad enough to remain in the hospital. Critical usually means that there is a greater chance you may die if not in the hospital. When a person is in serious condition, they tend to be on a ordinary floor nearby the nurse's station. When a person is in critical condition, they tend to be in the Intensive Care Unit.

serious means that it is pretty bad and needs to be watched
critical means that anything bad could happen at any moment

serious in the medical sense means that the injury/disease is severe however the persons life is not in immediate danger at that point in time

critical however means that the persons cardiovascular status is unstable and could possibly result in death.

critical is near fatal. serious is just really bad

serious is not as critical as critical. Critical is more serious than serious
