I doubt it will be even affordable in my lifetime. I really hope we don't come to all that though.

Ever seen the movie "Gattaca" with Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman & Jude Law? If not, you should watch it...it's about a family with 2 sons, one born naturally and the other engineered, and is the story of the natural one's struggle to prove himself and succeed in a world where he's not given the same opportunities because of his genes. It brings up some really interesting points about what could happen in terms of discrimination and such after genetic engineering becomes available and widespread.

I think I'd choose not to have kids at all if we got to that point, because I'd feel presumptious messing with genetics, but I wouldn't want to have a child naturally and then see him/her get turned down for jobs and made a second class citizen because of how I chose for him/her to come into the world.

Definately not!! You know there are women out there who can't even bear children and would love to just be given the chance to give birth to a healthy ordinary baby.

Each child is special in their own way and by getting designer genetics for YOUR child only proves that you are one who follows what's cool based on what society says is cool.

What's wrong with today's world where you have to streamline your own child by getting him/her DESIGNER genetics? I mean come on ... an average joe kinda kid doesn't cut it for people anymore? It's a sick world we live in when we have to alter our children's genetics just because they are DESIGNER.

Be thankful that some women out there CAN have a healthy baby b/c like I said a lot of women are unable to bear their own child and would give anything to be given that chance. Accept your child for who they are ... it's your job to raise them not streamline them into the perfect human b/c as humans none of us are perfect.
