I'm on vacation at my grandparents' house and yesterday my mom called. She told me that one of my budgies that the pet shop owner said was a boy ended up being a girl. Oh and that my budgie that actually WAS a boy died. The live budgie is now VERY sad because now she's in this big cage and all alone. My mom talks and whistles to her and she's given her some fresh veggies as a treat.(when mom got into her cage she freaked out more than usual) We're gonna get her a new friend but it will be a few days seeing as my parents are gonna be busy. What can I have my mom do to cheer her up? D=

Your bird is in mourning and she misses her companion. She needs her people to keep her company until she gets a new bird companion.I've owned birds for over 40 years and seen this happen many times. Birds can be very smart, intellectually and emotionally.Keep up with the extra TLC.

You really should get your budgie a mate as soon as possible. No talking, whistling, toys etc will make up for the loss of her mate. The only thing that will occupy her mind will be another bird. Believe me, I have experience in this.

If you do not wish to own another bird..which is always best. then place a good sized mirror in or next to your birds cage.

hope this helps.

Play music. Keets love noise. My birds chatter to it.

She needs a new friend. Make sure you do slow introductions.
