I have a two part question. First let me explain that we have a 7 year old. My two questions are... 1) Is it normal for her to be hungry ALL the time? It seems like no sooner does she eat she is hungry again. 2) She isn't gaining too much weight so should we be concerned about this? Or is she just a normal 7 year old girl?

I do feel that she has hit a growth spurt. We just bought new outfits and they are shorter then when we first got them. She has put on a little weight but not too much. She is a very active child.

We have a 7 year old as well and this is what I have learned since summer vacation began.

1. She eats non-stop....cereal, corn dogs, milkshakes, McDonalds. We bought a watermelon and I told her it was "natures candy".......she whispered to her dad later after we had cut it and said....."I like regular candy Daddy".

2. She eats MORE when she is bored. When she is watching TV or on the computer. She will eat and drink without even thinking.

3. We have started riding our bikes in the morning and swimming from 4-6 in the afternoon......and it has changed her whole eating pattern. Or when she has a friend over......she doesn't constantly run to the frig.....!

I feel her eating spurt was boredom because school was over.....and well BECAUSE IT WAS THERE and because she was used to structure and I let that lag a bit with summer.

We are back on track and I hope this helped.

Peace

I wouldnt be concerned. If she isn't gaining too much weight, then I wouldnt be worried. Only if she starts to eat to the point where she becomes an obese child, that's when you should be concerned.

Maybe she is bored, which is why she eats....? I've known a few people like that! Try to do more activities with her!

Maybe she's going through a growth spurt (even though she's not gaining weight, could she be getting taller?) and if she is active, she could be burning the calories just as fast as she takes them in.

As long as she is eating healthy and feeling fine, you probably don't need to worry.

I have a 7 year old girl also and she can eat tons! I remember 2 years ago, her pre-school took a field trip to a Papa Johns for lunch. Her teacher called me to tell me that her and another boy ate an entire large cheese pizza by themselves. I think that if she isn't eating a lot of junk (some is okay-they are kids), feed her what she is willing to eat. Hopefully she is just being an active little girl. Just by watching my 2 girls grow, they grow in stages. One time their arms look like ape arms, then their body is tiny and they have legs of supermodel. If you are getting concerned talk to her doctor and they might be able to tell you if their is reason for concern.

It is normal for her to be hungry a lot seeing as she is probably doing lots of active things,if she isn't gaining weight she may just have a fast metabolism.

I have a 6 year old boy that eats constant. It is completly normal. They are growing and they need the extra calories. Just be sure she is getting nutritious snack and meals. I would not worry about gaining weight, or getting fat.

Sounds like a growing spurt. Is she eating healthy things? if she isn't gaining weight, I wouldn't worry too much. but I hope she's not eating chips, etc. give her fruits and stuff.

Keep a bunch of healthy stuff around like fruit, yogurt, whole-wheat crackers, cheese, raw veggies, etc, and tell her she can eat it whenever she's hungry. I let mine do that without having to ask, and it doesn't seem to interfere with mealtime. They don't whine about being hungry and their weight is good.
