As the war in Iraq continues for a fourth year, the global image of America has slipped further, even among publics in countries closely allied with the United States, a new global opinion poll has found.

Favorable views of the United States dropped sharply over the past year in Spain, where only 23 percent now say they have a positive opinion, down from 41 percent in 2005, according to the survey, which was carried out in 15 nations this spring by the Pew Research Center. In Britain, Washington's closest ally in the Iraq war, positive views of America have remained in the mid-50s in the past two years, still down sharply from 75 percent in 2002.

Other countries throughout the world have have little or no repect for the United States due to the Iraq war and the lies the Government told. The Insurgents have more respect in the world than Bush and his supporters. The United States will end up losing the war on terrorism much like the war they lost in Vietnam.

What war on terrorism?
The United States of America are acting as terrorists themselves insisting on that stupid war.

Dubya declared a war that cannot ever end; a war on "terror" or "terrorism" is perpetual, because there will always be both in the world. Statistics won't change the fact that we Americans are viewed as slothful, overweight, and greedy by many other countries. We're "led" by a buffoon, we're building a freakin WALL on our southern border, we can't even respond quickly enough to save our own people in the aftermath of a natural disaster, and we are conceited enough to try to bend every other country in the world to our way of thinking and believing.

I still think we live in the best country in the world, however. Many countries ( ex. China ) have NEVER had much respect for the United States because historically we're infants. We have a very short history in comparison to much of the rest of the world, and many countries simply don't feel we've earned our arrogance and superior stance.

Unlike many people who sit at home in safesville reading surveys and forming their view of the world from internet blogs, I actually travel the world frequently, both on business and for pleasure, including spending my vacations in Muslim countries.

My experience is that whilst people sometimes disagree with U.S policy, there is no great undercurrent of dislike for the USA, and most people are fascinated by what the country is like.

Think about it. Where do most of the worlds least priviledged people try to get to in order to make their way in the world and do better for themselves and their families. Thats right the USA or the UK.

Only 7% of Americans have passports, which means that many people reading this site will never have left the USA, or intend to.

My advice is to get out there and travel the world, because you will find that many people actually do like you.

People often dislike the US because our contry is better than theirs. People resent the fact that the US has the most powerful economy and military(China has the largest, don't get it mixed up). the governments of other countries dislike the US because they feel that the US should give away all of its wealth to their nations because we have the strongest economy. Don't be folled by the media; the US economy is in better shape than it has been for a very long time. Socialist, Communist, and Fascist governments believe that because Americans have the most money we should give it all away to make their countries just as good as the US.

If you make $100,000 a year, and your neighbor is unemployed, should you give $50,000 of your hard earned money so that he can have the same lifesyle as you without having to work at all? thats the idea

And yet despite all this, there are millions of people all over the world who try to get green cards and visas to come here every year.

By the way, if the USA is guilty of "telling lies" about Iraq and WMDs, then other governments -- including Russia's, France's, and Great Britain's -- are also guilty of the same lies. That's because their intelligence services came up with the exact same conclusions regarding Hussein and WMDs.

I have been many places. Because we are arrogant, spoiled, waste resources and our country just takes whatever it wants from everyone else. We flip out if the stoner at Jack in the Box forgot Cheese on our burger, some countries would kill to eat something like that everyday. Think about it. Oh, and all our methods are right too, we can't let countries run themselves because then we wouldn't be in control. And guess what, I am in the Military. So there, I don't want to hear it from you guys saying all this crap to me.

Why? Isn't it obvious? How can anyone like a country that hates itself? And that's the latest fad here in the good ole u s of a, self-loathing. If people got their heads out of their butts and had even a little bit of respect for themselves, you'd see other people's opinions start to change too.

I'am from Germany, a part of the "old Europe".
We don't dislike the USA. We and they are a part of the same western culture.

The only thing we dislike is the Gouverment of the USA and its politics. For us, there a 2 sides of your country: The people and the Politic.

If you are serious about getting information on this (and not just a passing fancy on the internet), I would strongly suggest reading the book (or listening to the CD version) "What Went Wrong" by Bernard Lewis.

Have ever known someone who keeps butting into your life and tries to fix all your problems, problems that you don't want fixed, and they just won't give up and go away? Maybe a mother in law? That's what the US does. We think we have to fix everything while ignoring the problems of our own people.
