Check out http://freecycle.org/

People in your area are always trying to get rid of stuff but instead of throwing it out you can go and pick it up from them. I've gotten some of my best dorm furniture that way.

You'll get emails daily full of people trying to give stuff out.

Best of luck! :)

try some garage sales or flea markets even estate auctions, also Salvation Army Outlet Stores. there are many places you can find good furniture cheap. You just have to take time and look.

You sort of answered your own question as you're in the same predicament as other college students. Look around at thrift shops, salvation army stores, goodwill, etc., in your area and especially close to the college town. As other students leave, or upgrade their belongings, many times they donate their items. In addition, the above mentioned stores generally carry a vast array of used furniture and decorative items in pretty decent condition. I like to shop there for unique one of a kind things or something I can use in one of my trash to treasure projects. Good luck to you!

www.craigslist.org or www.freecycle.org. Both are really cheap sources of furniture. Make sure that you're looking in wherever the city is that you live. Good luck.

An additional answer might be check local motels and hotels for room furnishing sales. If you aren't opposed to used anyway, the prices are often decent, and can be bedding, tables, chairs, lamps, etc.

Target is okay but bed bath and beyond is kinda expensive. I reccomend http://www.dormco.com/?Click=127781, they've got stuff for really cheap and shipping is always 2.95, even if you are buying a fridge or other heavy stuff
