What kind?? Small breed,Large?? Puppy??

I buy 40lb bags of Large Breed Adult for around $36-42. Depending on sale and coupons!!!! Then you can buy larger bags later. At most dealers, there is not a per pound difference between getting the 40ls or the 20 lb, so if you only have 1 dog, a 20lb may be better since a 40 could be a little stale after using it up.
My dogs love Eukanuba and do very well on it. I gotta say though, there is really not much difference between the Eukanuba and Iams, they are made by the same company. So, if cost is an issue, try Iams.
People will say do not buy it because Iams does animal testing, but decide for yourself. I have been feeding it for years.

Start with a small bag for obvious reasons!!!

I agree with StacyTheTrainer...there are much better quality foods available. Some are Wellness, Nutro is also good along with one called Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. It's a good food and a really good price for the quality. You can can find Nutro at Petsmart I believe (I don't have one close enough for me to travel to frequently and it's been a long time since I've been there). The higher quality foods may seem a little more expensive but they have a lot of great rewards such as less consumption, less output, healthier animals etc. It really is better to feed them a higher quality if you can. Although there are worse foods than Eukanuba as well. Good luck and congrats on you're puppy :-).

You may want to look into some other brands. Solid Gold, Flint River Ranch, California Natural, Royal Canin, and similar brands use better ingredients and are more wholesome foods than Eukanuba, Iams, Pedigree, etc. They cost a little more, but because they are a better quality, your puppy will need to eat LESS of the food to feel full and get all the nutrition he needs.

Feeding a higher quality food is best. Eukanuba is nasty so is Science Diet. Don't let your vet tell you that its the best. They don't know much about nutrition if they recommend that.

I found a wonderful book that a vet wrote called "The Complete Holistic Dog Book" by Jan Allegretti & Katy Sommers, DVM. It has great info on feeding, nutrition and vaccinations for dogs.

I know that some dog food companies have decreased the sizes to compensate for the increased cost of ingredients, production and transportation. Unfortunately everything is getting more expensive! I'm sure if you called them, they would tell you the same.

Why would you want to pay top dollar for a food with by products in it? I like Nutro much better - reasonable price and NO by products!

I don't know, but you can find the prices on pet shop websites, such as Petco or Petsmart. That's how I found out the price of my kittens' food.
